The Church never desisted from calling down divine damnation upon erotic literature. Nevertheless, erotic expression could not entirely be suppressed. While other, more legitimate, forms of art were the primary decorations on the interiors and exteriors of Medieval churches, the erotic and the obscene were also represented, with no detail spared.
Intercourse, masturbation, fellatio, shameless exhibitionism, sodomy, homosexuality, orgies, bestiality, and sadism were all depicted with brutal realism.
